The Wilmo Wagon will be $1 to ride and it will travel from Market street to Trolley Square to Union Street and then down to the Riverfront and back to Market. I think it is going to be a great way to connect the neighborhoods and business districts for the happy hour, dinner crowd and late night bar hopping.

We will also be in need of a lot of volunteers throughout the summer to help us with staffing events and fund-raising. If you would be interested, let me know.

Due to the fine work of NWAA (New Wilmington Art Association) and other groups, these residences feature lower rent and a special artist preference policy. Despite the work on part of NWAA and others, it seems that applications for these lofts are low and they are facing pressure to repeal the artist policy, which is unfortunate. Artists need low cost housing due to the nature of their profession and this complex is there to support and nurture them in their craft.

I saw this property on the past two art loops and the whole feel of the building can be described as industrial-chic. Each loft features large windows, high ceilings and concrete floors. The entrance to the building doubles as an art gallery and the basement will be a shared space with lockers for artists to keep supplies. All-in-all, the design of this community is built to house and support artists so it will only make sense for artists to live there.

I think the best part of city restaurant week is the fact that you can get inside some of Wilmington’s most exclusive restaurants for a lower price than normal which is great for trying out a new place. To get a list of all of the participating restaurants, visit their website at www.cityrestaurantweek.com and there you can view lunch and dinner menus for most of the participating venues.

Last year I did the dine around and stopped at Deep Blue, The Green Room at Hotel du Pont and finished off at Cafe Mezzanotte. It was a really great time and it got people walking around the city of Wilmington who otherwise would have not even stepped foot in the city. Hopefully I will be organizing another meal with friends for next week so I will report back and let you all know how it went!

I find myself discovering events, benefits, fundraisers, cool festivals, restaurant weeks and all I want to do is get people to support them and make Wilmington the city that I think it could be. After living downtown for almost 2 years I think that Wilmington is a great social place to live, place to do business and has the growth potential to be even better down the road. So if you aren’t from Wilmington, DE, that is okay – I’m not saying the rest of these posts are going to soley focus on Wilmington, I am just saying that going forward I will begin to post more about Wilmington in addition to my marketing and social media rants.
